What's a setup like this worth? It came with my car

I just got a new car and I'm not a fan of subwoofers. The box has 2 12" JL subs I believe. The Amp is a Kenwood KAC-X8100 1600W amp. I want to sell the box, subs, and amp but have absolutely no idea what anything like that is worth. Any ideas on what I should ask for them? Sounds amazing when I pop in any rap CD, but I'm not really into that and the weight is definitely a concern.

it all depends on what version of JL subs they are.

find out what kind of subs they are, example: W0's, W3's W3v2's, etc... , and that will determine how much it is worth

Unscrew the subs from the box, lift them out and get the model number off the back of the magnet. It's also gonna depend on how old the subs are.
By the way, does your amp look like this?

If so, it's a KAC-X810D (D instead of 0)... that's a nice mono amp... I might be interested in it. Depends how quickly you're trying to sell it.

nice setup, I'd say keep it... but that's just me... unless you need the money for something in particular... that box is very nice as well, this guy really cared about his stereo setup..

do you have nice speakers all around?

and since you don't seem to care much about subs, don't forget that our cars have ZERO bass without them...

you might try driving around with the subs on low, so you aren't killing the neighbor's dog, but enough to really fill in that missing element from your music...

dunno.

Everyone will probably crucify me but I think subwoofers are flat out stupid for car audio. I don't have much room, I don't want to tempt theives, I don't want to draw attention to my car or **** off people in the area, I don't want tickets for excess noise, I don't want to rattle anything loose, I don't want extra weight, I don't want electrical problems from such a powerful amp.

That system is such overkill and subs sound downright awful with the music I listen to. My old bird had 6.5" in the kickpanels and 6x9" in the sail panels and that sounded just amazing with tons of bass. I plan on doing that setup again. I put filler behind the sail panels and it tightened up the bass alot. Too bad the guy pulled the 4x6" from this car, it still sounds pretty good though.

if you play the subs at a low volume, then you won't have electrical problems... I can understand the weight problems... but getting 'good' bass from 6.5s in the sails? I don't know about that.... I consider 'good' bass to be fairly accurate to the original recording... like the way you'd hear it in headphones... I honestly can't say that I've EVER heard any woofer under 7" (non-ported) that can produce sound anywhere near as good as headphones...

have you ever considered at least a small 8 or 10 inch subwoofer hidden somewhere just to fill in that bass that you must not know is missing?

I almost envy you... if I didn't care much about the bass response in my car, I'd have much more money in my pocket, and less chance of my car getting broken in to... oh well...

if you had a car with a rear deck for 6x9s... I might be on the same boat as you regarding subwoofers, but our cars are not performers in 6x9 bass contests, that's for sure!

I consider good bass what sounds good. I'm a musician and do recording, I totally understand what you're saying, but between road noise and everything I think alot of the sound that is supposed to be there gets lost anyway. If it sounds good then I'm all for it.

Any idea what that box unloaded would be worth? I should sell the system to another firebird owner, if anyone heard it they'd be sold. It's really tight and can produde ridiculous volumes.

If it's too boomy and there is too much bass for your tastes, then it's just not set up properly. Whether it's car audio or home audio, music without bass has no life and no soul. Don't make the assumption that all bass has to sound the way that a typical "boomin' system" sounds. When properly tuned, the bass will integrate with the music and become part of it, not a separate entity like what you hear in 99% of the cars with a "system". Subwoofers get a bad repution for producing massive quantities of lousy sounding bass, but that's only the case when that's the buyer's objective (which unfortunately, is 99% of the time). If the buyer wants clean, accurate music with well integrated bass, a subwoofer is a necessity for him as well, but it just needs to be set up differently. Unfortunately, most car audio shops fail to realize this.

yo that custom made box costs like $400. i was going to have one made for my car, but then i changed my mind due to pricing of it. JL subs always retail/sell for a high price because they are worth it. the amp is a pretty good amp too. your lookin at a pretty penny if you sell all of it. obviously it will have to go to a nother firebird/camero owner for the box to work.

I hope that you at least put *some* bass-response woofer in that vehicle... otherwise say goodbye to all frequencies below 300hz...

I bet you could make a baffle board in the rear of the hatch area, that hinges upward... you could mount 6x9's in it and get back that true rear-deck bass that you want... otherwise you just won't have any bass...

try pulling it out for a while and see if it truly sounds the way you like it.... then if you still LOVE your stereo, then you might as well sell it.

so some guy who's been posting on here for months purchased your car with a bad check, then basically flaunts it all over the internet?

Guess he's got two cars now? weird.

got any pics of his setup, from different angles and such?
