Need help with a mystery sub

I got a mystery sub today from a friend of my mom’s. I’ve got a thousand questions about it and a weird story to tell about it, but that can wait for tomorrow when I can get pictures.

It’s completely unbranded and has no identifiable marks on it. I have a suspicion that it came out of a pa system because of the box I got it in and because my mom’s friend is an audio guy who does installs in buildings and what not.

The sub has 4 / 4 ohms written on it, so I’m guessing that means each coil is 4 ohms. When I tried to find out for sure with my multimeter, it didn’t give me any reading. It’s possible that my multi is FUBRed from a previous experiment, but when I checked it, it read the resistance of my key perfectly fine. Could it be that the multimeter is screwed up? I tested to make sure that the coils weren’t open (that they were continues circuits) and it also generated voltage when I pushed the cone in/out.

Ideas? I want to make sure everything is ok before I hook it up to my amp.
