Anyone modified their dash for 2din?

Im taking my ac out when i start modifying the engine, so i dont see the need to have the ac controls on my dash.

Therefore there would be a lot more room where the radio goes, enough for 2 din.

How would i mount it though?
A piece of fabricated plywood to sit flush where the stock radio and ac were, and then screw the new 2din into the plywood?

I dont have any experience with fiberglass and fabrication so any help appreciated.

A local shop was thinking of doing this for me... but it was gonna cost like $700 just for them to make the new opening... not including the double din dvd/gps/mp3 player I wanted...

fiberglass is pretty much your only option, and it's a hit-or-miss... it could look like total crap.
