i've got a top of the line kenwood excelon deck, will playing mp3's (decent-good quality) loud, like rap and bass tracks, through a nine.1 amp and 2 13ov.2 12's do damage to them? i realize any distorted power is no good, but will the amp or deck filter any of this out? i've played them through my cheapo cerwin vega 12's and they sound fine so far but i havent run them hard, just off my kenwood 35x4.

 

I highly doubt it will dmg anything to play mp3 cds since Ive been using them my almost entire car career with my systems.

 

Distortion isn't what kills your speakers it the effects of clipping, which a crappy track can't introduce, that can kill your subs. Clipping does make the speakers have distortion though.

 

Recorded distortion isn't a problem, its when the amp itself distorts (underpowering). So you're fine.
