Factory Bose System Need Help!
I have a factory Bose stereo system in my 1989 Iroc-Z which ussually sounds great. Lately I'm haveing a problem which I can't seem to find. When I first turn my stereo on it sounds great for about 1 minute than the rear deck speakers will quit working, in about 1 more minute the drivers kick panel speaker will get a slight buzz and then quit the only speaker still working after 2 minutes is the passengers side speaker. It will ussusally play for about 10 minutes or longer than it may or maynot quit working, just depends. I thought maybe my deck was going bad so I put in an aftermarket deck and a Bose interface so I wouldn't burn up my Bose speakers. I turned the radio on and it does the exact same thing losses the back speakers than the drivers one just like with the Bose Stereo. Therefore I believe my factory deck is good and started looking at the wiring. I can take a spare speaker I have and hook it up on the back speaker deck wiring and get it to work by hooking it to the speaker wires going to the bose speakers. There is 4 wires going to the Bose speakers 2 power the amp and 2 work the speakers? I hook it to the 2 wires not going threw the amp and it works. This tells me the wiring is good going to the back speakers but for some reason the power going to the amp must not be working???? I'm wanting to leave my car original and not install a new deck. I'm thinking maybe my Bose relay is bad? Anybody got any ideas, is something getting hot and shutting down the speakers. I could easilly hook up a new system but like I said I want to keep the Bose system I have to keep the car original 60,000 original miles and I'm cleaning it up to be in mint shape. Nothing on this car is butchered up and I feel it should be kept as original as possible.

Anybody know where the relay is for the amps? Is it the same one that runs the electric antenea? There is a small relay next to the ECM on the passengers side just under the dash and about 1 inch away from the mounting screw to the ECM. Is this the right relay for the Bose Amps? I think it also goes to the antenea. Any help would be appreciated.

bose gold stuff
I have a couple of the bose relays, the pwr antenna relay on the gold cars90-92 is the same as the relay for the amps, I will need the part # to ensure that I have the right one, as the gold f/cars 90-92 use a little different wiring and relay than the 87-89 cars, I think that the problem is not the relay, but the rear amps are going out, they tend to go out in pairs, and should be replaced in pairs, thats what is recomended, note that the relay only ensures that the power is turned on to the amps once the radio is turned on, it does not control each amps power by itself, In my experiances the relay either works or not, but I could be wrong, either way..... I have a lot of f/bod gold, and non gold stuff, and a couple of gold radios, that work, so you could say I have a bose gold mine. Let me know if you have any questions.
THE RELAY IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DASH, PAS/SIDE, EITHER BEHIND THE RIGHT FOOT SPEAKER (87-89, FOLLOW THE WIRING FROM THE RIGHT SPEAKER, THAT IS WHERE IT IS ON MY 87), OR UNDER THE LOWER (R) DASH, (90-92 GOLD) DROP OUT PANEL MOUNTED JUST INSIDE THE LOWER LIP, BY THE POWER ANTENNA RELAY(IF YOU HAVE ONE) REMEMBER IF YOU CANNOT GET TO IT YOU MAY HAVE TO LOOSEN THE DASH ITSELF ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND MOVE IT OUT A LITTLE TO GET TO IT, YOU CAN FEEL THE RELAY WHEN IT IS SWITCHED ON IF IT IS WORKING OR NOT. GOOD LUCK.
