who do I trust to wire me up?
Ok, Some of you have seen my car. It's a R7U players car1LE. I'm gonna put a DVD/TV player in it. The thing is, it' a radio delete a/c delete car. so do I trust my detailer, (who has the same setup) but has never wired up an entire car? or do I go to best buy and just take it up the shorts? (no offense to best buy employees, but labor rates are recockulous here in minn.) The setup in his 01 tahoe looks good and sounds good, but he didnt have to wire the whole thing. let me know your guys opinions?

Take it to Best Buy, installations are guaranteed for life so if you ever have a problem you can schedule an appointment and have them take care of it. Best Buy corporate headquarters is in Minneapolis so those stores in Minnesota tend to be top-notch when it comes to quality since a CEO or corporate member could walk into the store at any given time.

I wouldn't let Best Buy install a goddamned radar detector on a golf cart, nevermind go near my IROC with anything. Not all of them are full of incompetent-know-nothing-pimple-headed-wet-behind-the-ears-never-saw-a-real-car-in-their-life teenagers, but most are.
Find a reputable audio shop in your area that does real installations, or grab your drill & screwdriver and start asking enough questions here to do it yourself. There are plenty of us that can easily guide you through the installation. Installing what you want into that car shouldn't be difficult.

If your car has nothing in it right now, it really shouldnt be that hard to wire up. Really depends on what you are all putting in. If all the speakers are going to be ran off of an amp it would make things a lot easier that way. If the radio is the dvd player with the motorized tv in it, all you should need to do is find a constant power, a good ground, and an accesory wire. Also the remote wire for the amps if you are using one. These are the main ones you will need. You may need to ground out one of the wires for the tv to work when the car is running. It should say that this wire needs to be hooked up to the emergency brake but that is easy to bybass. If the rest of the speakers are being ran off of an amp all you will need to do is run a set of rca's back to the amps, then speaker wire to the factory location of where the speakers should be. If your interior is gutted just run the wires under where the seats go but if it isn't you may have to pull off some of the side moldings to hide the wires. Hope this gives you some sort of idea as to what is involved. It really isn't as hard as you think, just kind of time consuming. Just make sure that none of the wires get kinked, snagged or punctured by anything because that could end up causing you more problems than you want.

Eclipse or MB Quart for the components. Please do yourself a favor, and avoid the hack job crap that Best Buy or Circuit City will do, waste a weekend learning if that's what it takes, do it yourself and get it done right. You'll greatly regret what they do to your car. Circuit City cut up my friends ride, twisted and taped the wires, and for some reason , ran home 14g wire to the pass. door. Why, I dont know, but needless to say im the only person that installs on his car any more.

yikes. sorry to hear that. I had a couple bad experiences myself. thats why i asked. A looooongg time ago,(10 years) when i got my first car, i took it to best buy. It was a Lincoln Town car. (I know, I know! My daily drivers are usually town cars, so SHUT UP.....JUST SHUT UP!!!.....Ok i'm better.) Anyway
, I spent 5 hours there because
they said their install guys had to re-wire the whole car cause the deck i chose couldnt be wired to the factory amp. Now I was 16, so i believed them. cost me 250 for the deck, and 200 to re-wire the dam car! I have 2 Town cars and my detailer did the installs in both and they hooked right up!

Okay, on some cars it is required to rewire the speakers because of the factory sound sysytem. I have had a couple cars that I had to do this with. It is a pain in the butt to do but we never charged that much to do it. Maybe 60 at the most. Like I said, it really isn't that hard to do just time consuming if it is your first time. But then at least you will know where the wires are incase anything happens and you can say you did all of it yourself.
As for component speakers Eclipse and MB quarts are good speakers, I would also recommend alpine as well. I have been very impressed with their component speakers but the choice is yours.
