i was just wondering if there are any beneifits from having downfiring subs or if its just all for looks

you mean a box where the speakers are on the bottom, facing down, or a regular box with the speakers inverted, firing into the enclosure?

inverted will make VERY little or no difference in sound from normal placement. as for actually being aimed downwards, i wouldnt know, never seen a setup like that in an f-body. i would imagine it wouldnt sound very good, if you're talking about back in the well.

 

i'm a newb so bear with me, basically what im saying instead of mounting the subs the normal way ontop of the box instead you mount them upside down, where they are firing into the box, when the magnet is pointing up in the air instead of being down in the box, is this just for custom looks or what. I plan on doin it when i build a box and just wanted 2 know if it is just for appearance or if it actually helps

As 1meanGTA said the ones firing into the box - inverted - have generally no benefit besides "ooohhh" factor. And pending on your subs, it may be difficult to invert a sub in the hatch area because of how low the hatch is and the area taken up in the well by the box.

 

The other side of this is that sometimes you won't have enough room inside the box for the magnet/basket/etc so you're forced into running them inverted. The guy with the crazy back seat glass box runs inverted for this reason.
