Wiring Harness

Ok, i bought an '86 Iroc a few weeks ago, and the head unit is gone along with the chevrolet wiring harness. I was planning on rewiring the car with a painless wiring harness since it was made by GM in the eighties.. I'm restoring the car.. So will i need to pick up an '86 harness, or could i use an '89-up (newer style) GM harness? I wouldn't see why not, but then again, i don't know **** about wiring. Man.. I need some help.

Oh, and i cant decide between Black or Silver.. even though it's unrelated, i just cant figure it out.

Are you talking about rewiring the whole car or just the stereo? If you're talking about the whole car then I would buy the harness for whatever engine you're going to be running: TBI, TPI (speed density or MAF) etc.

No, i'm rewiring the whole car, and im gonna run a 406, no fuel injection. The last time i checked it had a really bad ******* wiring job in the engine compartment, and there's no harness in the dash, just wires.. My last Camaro was Black, it was really Hot, so maybe something different? Black interior for sho.

As far as i know Painless only make engine compartment/ ecm harnesses. What you would need is the BCM harness or body harness which would be a dealer item. Probably more expensive than an Ls1 crate. I know i had to order a harness for a friend who was doing an sr20det swap in his 240sx. He tried it on his own and butchered the body harness. It was $2500 and nobody had it.

As far as the color do black with silver trim/accents.
