preventing theft
i'm getting ready to put my system in. and i was wondering is there any way i can make it hard for someone to steal them. i was talking to someone and they made a theft guard and what not where he had a way of bolting his subs and amp down to the frame of the car. he also included some fans for the amp. any tips from anybody.

Use an assortment of nuts/bolts, hex, allen, etc - things that you normally don't come across. I plan on using at least four different variations on my subs once I finally get to the point of being able to mount them. I will also be bolting the box into the well and it will be done so that you won’t be able to unbolt the box unless you have the subs removed.
Be warned – some thieves will put a screwdriver through your speakers if they can’t get them out.

Install the factory roll up sunshade assy to cover the back hatch/well area so no one will be able to see what is there to begin with. That will go a long way to stopping the problem before it even starts. All that is left is to make sure and pop the faceplate of your receiver unit so they won't be too tempted to start.

Good idea on stealth. This leads to my next point: don't bump in your neighborhood, near where you work, or anywhere you are going to park your car. Don’t draw attention to your stereo.

amen on stelth. i don't even have that much car audio stuff. i have stock front speaks, decent stock replacement rears, a 1.5dinn "factory fit" 5yo pioneer headunit (nice tuning abilitys) and i used to have a ten inch sub, but it is gone
. i keep it all hidden (IE, leave my speakers in my dash, no Kicks)
when i was still rocking the ten i had the "gain" switch on my dash (my GTA came with UQ7 performance sound) wired to work with it, once i neared the destination i would kill the subs and turn the volume down a bit. i usualy also kille the sub at lights as a courtesy to other road users. my **** NEVER got jacked.
in my old jeep cherokee i had a 12" Pioneeer IMPP 150W RMS sub that i bumped everywhere, bragged about it to friends ect... jeep got broken into (twice) 1st time they took the ****ty MTX sub, 2nd time i had chained the sub box to the spare tire mount, and used a big *** bracket to the sub box to hold the chain. amp was under the seat, with the heads stripped off of the screws, ant the deck used a torx bit and two square style bit screws (had to search for those bad boys). they ended up ripping out my sunvisor for the clip on CD wallet, and leaving the rest. tore my dash trim up, but it was replaceable. in fact my 1st ever trip to the junkyard was to replace that.... memories
anyway i guess my points are these
1. keep it on the DL. don't brag to your friends, ESPECIALY if you are still in high school!!
2. only bump when it can't be traced to you, IE on the road while moving. turn it down/off when within a mile or so of your destination.
3. trust no one. i usualy don't listen to music with people in the car, but when i do it is usualy quiet.
4. hide it. make it look stock, or worthless. see "legend of bucketsub" in my sig. no one in there right mind would steal that. i have also seen "free air" sub installs directly onto the rear intirior plastic in the hatch well. use black screws and no one will ever know. leave amps under seats, in rear storage cubby etc...
5. take your faceplate!!! my sister had a tapedeck stolen with a faceplate on it once.
here is a link of a good amp install:
hidden istalls
and a picture of said amp install. i actualy had the amp for "bucketsub" installed like this for a while in my 86, but eventualy threw it in the bottom of the bucket.
