I have a cheapo DVC sub and a cheapo 2CH 120w amp. Can I just hook the left and right each to one side of the sub? Or does it not work that way?

Sweet. If it is a 100w max sub, does that mean 100w each side, or 100w total?

depends on how cheesy the sub is.. 100w "max" could be 50wrms per coil, or it could be 10wrms per coil. what is the Ω's of each coil? you might be able to parallel up the VC's and stereo bridge the amp for more power.
