Quick question re: 89 GTA stock radio

Hi! I'm new to the site so please bear with me..probably a stupid question but my car has been sitting for a couple years and now I'm trying to get it back running, etc. My stock stereo keeps saying 'LOC' and wont turn on. I tried pressing the mute button on the steering wheel but it doesn't work. My buttons on the wheel only work when they want to though...what can I do???

I didn't know these cars had buttons on the wheel

I guess that you just want to keep the original look, start checking continuity on each wire from the wheel to the radio, seems like some wire got toasted with time...

Yeah, my 89 trans an gta does have the steering wheel with radio controls. Is the mute button the only thing that will unlock the radio?

It sounds like a previous owner used a code to lock the Radio, What you can do is go to a dealership they will take the number from the radio call it into an automated service, The service will give them an unlock code.

Ain't it kind of old to be unlocked in a CHEVY dealer? I Thought these would be analog radios and won't lock...
Well, If it's so I have no idea It wouldn't be bad idea checking the wiring also or pherhaps consider install a newer radio
