Do a search for Second Skin on these forums. I would recommend that if you're looking for something equal or better (IMO) than Dynamat Extreme, or buy RAAMmat for more a more affordable mat. I've used both RAAMmat and Damplifier in our cars, and they work great. 120sq feet will do the job if you're planning on doing a double layer on the firewall and wheel wells. And this link is a highly recommended read if you are shopping for sound deadener.

Dynamat is the best....

As far as how much you need.... It all depends on your car and your budget....

Dynaplate weigh almost nothing.... But it will cost you....

Like everything else in the world, the statement above is a matter of opinion, not fact. Even the tests that 'supposed' unbiased experts perform are NOT FACT. The tests do not take in consideration the most important element: time. My car has had Dynamat on it for over 15 years. Not a single piece has ever come off. As the manager of a mobile electronics store, I've had to replace cheaper competitor's product hundreds of time with Dynamat. I have NEVER had to replace properly installed Dynamat! THAT IS FACT!

To answer the original question about "how much to buy", that also depends on which product you use. For Dynamat Xtreme or a product with similar damping properties, 36 sq. ft. would do a good basic installation. It would cover the inner door skins and the front section of the floorboard. These areas are the most effective in reducing road noise and vibration. Another 36 sq. ft. would cover the hatch floor and sides. With (2) boxes of 36 sq. ft., you would have enough to do the outer door skins as well. Another benefit with using a high quality product is that the areas do not absolutely have to be covered to be effective. I have found that anything above 50% coverage will do a good job. 75% coverage will do an awesome job. HOWEVER, using a cheaper product may require a more complete coverage and possibly more than one layer to achieve the same results. I would not worry about the roof. In the vehicles that I have applied it to the roof, I have not noticed a significant benefit (unless it was a SPL competition vehicle).

Here's a link to the Dynamat website. There is a ton of info and technical applications available.
