the sub should have box specs, you dont want it to big or to small. plus it all depends on if its ported or not.

Check out this site Car Alarm, Car Stereo, and Cruise Control Info for Installers

Look around on it, it shows you all of the different box types, and has calcs that will figure the volume and such. If you want trunk space, a sealed box will be the smallest, and the easiest to make, and make it sound good.

Heres what I did, but with 2 12's. You could do the samething, but just half of the box, to have some space. If you have the wood wooking skills, you could build one in the storage compartment. Try a search on the site, there are quite a few pics of sub set ups to get you an idea.

Im going to fiberglass the spare tire area and mount in a 12" L7 in the future. Currently Im running that box in the pic, but cut down to 1 sub, cut the sides/top, and left the whole bottom in place. About the onlything I use in the back is storage for my helmet, and the storage area for all of my fluilds/funnels/jumpercables.

Just stick it in a 1.25 cubic foot sealed box and be done with it. If you're not familiar enough with it to know what a ported box is, you'll never get one to sound right anyway, so stick with sealed.

The sub calls for 1 cubic foot, but going a hair bigger than the manufacturer recommends, especially on cheap subs, is almost always a good idea. "Small box" subs are so popular now, that a lot of manufacturers fib a little bit when recommending a box, especially on entry-level subs because generally small-box subs are very inefficient, which means they need a ton of power to get loud. Well, cheap subs tend not to handle high power, so the manufacturers usually make them more efficient, which means they aren't going to work as well in smaller enclosures.

You will get base, thats for sure, will it sound as well as a well put together system, no. But having a sub is better than nothing at all in these cars when you keep the stock location speakers.

Build it, and try it out. You can always go better latter once you learn a bit more, and get a feel for it. Just remember to use 3/4"MDF. Its $25 for a 8x4ft sheet at most hardware stores. Get some 1.5" or 2" screws, and some liquid nails and stick it together, put a screw every 3-4", predrill to keep the wood from splitting.

i hate to tell u this, but that sub is not the good, at all. the amp is probably 350-400 watts RMS bridged, it isnt 800 RMS its probably max, my friend had a power acoustics amp, they are considered flee-market brands, or cheap brands. but if you are looking for a little bump and dont really care about SPL or SQ, then be my guest and go with it, but if u are like me, and care about spl and sq, then get something better. also, a sub needs to have a box that is closest to its specs, for example, if you put that sony explod in a 20 ft cu ft sealed box, obviously it wont sound good, but if its more like 2.3 or 3 cu ft, it will be better. so it all depends on if its a ported or sealed box, and also depends on the sub.

and yes i agree with jim, since you dont know much about car audio box's, go with a small sealed box, because a ported box needs to be tuned to the right Hz.
