aftermarket stereo adaptor help

i finally went out & got a Schoshe (i think i spelled that right?) adapter kit to put an aftermarket stereo in my car, but the problem is that the adaptor is too big for the 82 cover plate (i swapped an 82 center console into my car) it wont let the 4 holes line-up unless i cut the bottom of the opening in the panel or grind the bottom of the adaptor & i don't want to do either,

is there another adaptor kit at autozone or advance autoparts that will clear the opening without modification to either parts?

very likely, did you tell them '85 when you bought the kit? Try giving them a call to see if the '82 requires a different kit.

Also how much would you have to trim off? Perhaps you can loosen the screws holding the kit and push the kit upwards and retighten the screws. I had to insert the bottom of the cover plate in first and push it down, then fold the top of the cover plate back towards the dash to get mine to go back in over the installation kit.

i bought the schoshe adapter at wal - mart

the 4 holes i was reffering to.. are the screw holes in the cover/trim plate, they are slightly lower than the holes in the console, when the adaptor is in

Right, normally with the adaptor if you loosen the screws holding it down, there will be a bit of play. I was saying try loosening the screws on that and pushing upward while tightening the screws back down, perhaps that will give you the room you need to put the screws back into the trim panel.

Another thing you may try, the installation kits arent normally labeled this end up. perhaps flip it over and see if the trim panel fits that way.
