Monsoon question -- newbie alert

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer a few very basic questions about the Delco Monsoon CD radio -- I have a '91 camaro, and have pulled out the factory cassette player. I am shopping eBay for a 4th gen Delco cd player.

Anyway, my questions are, (1) what makes the Monsoon edition better than the standard 4th gen cd player -- does the Monsoon just have more watts, or is the actual sound quality better?, and (2) if you install a Monsoon head unit, do you also have to install the separate Monsoon amplifier, or will the head unit produce adequate sound by itself?

RE: Monsoon

Never mind folks. Did some more research and answered my own questions. Doesn't sound like the Monsoon is for me. Apparently to make it work you either need the whole package (head unit, amp, and speakers) or a lot more car audio expertise than I have and more money than I want to spend. I will just look for the standard Delco CD player, like the ones used in the S-10.

fyi, the Monsoon deck in a 4th gen is EXACTLY THE SAME as a 'regular' Delco CD player..

it's the rest of the system you would be (not) interested in...

it would require MASSIVE amounts of work to get that setup in your car.

The (Trans Am--they are different--slightly) Monsoon system consists of:
- ANY headunit (using speaker-level outputs)
- 6.75" + 1" tweeters in the door, built-out like kickpods... necessary in a car such as these...
- 6.75" "sub-woofers" in the sail panels... they work amazing for their size, but the EU-700 can be made to fit, and now Elemental Designs has RE-designed this woofer so it's even shallower, and of a better build-quality...
- 4" woofers + 1" tweeters in the hatch...

There are big debates as to whether or not ALL the speakers run off of the Monsoon amplifier in the spare tire well, because there are many differing wiring diagrams floating around on the net, causing great confusion...

Either way, most people just rip out the whole system... that's my plan... then I can sell it as a whole... or keep it if I need it to sell/insurance purposes...
