Sub quit

12" Sony Xplod. Starting cutting in and out after a run in with a hidden rail road crossing. I figured a wired jerked loose, after tracing and disconnecting and reconnecting everything, still no go. I took the sub out of the box and checked the connections there, same thing. All connections and solder is in tact.

My guess would be something under the dust cap has came loose. Anyone had a probelm like this and is there a remedy beyond buying a new sub as this one is about 3 years old with maybe 20hrs of play time. It still feels as firm as it did the day I bought it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Sub quit

^^^ what he said.. that sony breaking was better than it still working.. im not trying to be an *** or anything but sony subwoofers are horrible... but i dont think you hitting a bump should jar anything loose on the woofer.. unless it is really that poorly made.. did you check your amp? id check all the wires on that too

Re: Sub quit

yeah I completely removed the entire system and reinstalled. Thinking a wire make have jerked and broke.

It was more than a bump. My fault for speeding but all 4 tires were airborne.

My amp works fine in 2 seperate friends system but not the speaker. I guess it is a blessing in disguise as I was looking at one thread in here and saw a different setup I'm thinking about doing.

I know sony's are cheap but this one hit just as hard as a friends kicker comp vr with a 500 watt bridged audiobahn amp. Freaked him out as well.

I have to have a sub as the 6x9's are fine (clarion 4 ways) but the rattles from the mounting plates irritate me to no end. Can't find a rememdy for that.

Maybe Im a cheapskate but 2 10" Pioneer truck riders were the best sounding system I've had in this car. I loved em. I've had trouble replacing the quality and sound ever since. They hit solid and hard for a good 75k miles on the car, maxed out every inch of the miles.

Re: Sub quit

Pull the mounting plates out for your 6X9's and make a set out of thin wood then throw some Dynamat on the backs where it mounts to the metal and your rattles should be solved. You may want to try simply dynamating the metal mounts first. Mine never rattled after repeated removal and installs, so I'm not exactly sure what you're up against here.

Re: Sub quit

Do the plates actually unbolt from the pillar or are they pop riveted on? It's just when the bass hits really excessive rattle, even louder outside the car. I can press against the pillar from the outside and it stops so I'm assuming it's the plate
