Re: component speakers
The ideal place for components is in the kick panel. You can get some pods like these from Q-Logic, but there are some far better ones available. These almost get in the way of the clutch pedal and force me to rest my left foot in front of the brake pedal.

Re: component speakers
Crutchfield carries the Q-Logic kicks. A search would reveal some of the better quality kicks made by members here.

Re: component speakers
I mounted mine in the a-pillar trim and put the mids in the kick panels. It sounds far better than I expected!

Re: component speakers
Well, thats pretty cool, i was planning on putting the tweets in the a pillar exactly like you did MurcoRS. Did you fiberglass them into place? Did you have to put any sound deadener on the back side of the a pillar trim piece?

Re: component speakers
I cut 3/4" notches in the trim where the top of the speaker cup would mount, while maintaining the right mounting angle, epoxied them into place and built-up the mounting location with "kitty fur", sanded them to shape, and then put on a layer of eurosoft evercoat for the final smoothing. I did attach strips of dynamat to the back of the trim and epoxied the mounting trees for strenghth and to minimize vibration. Make sure you put them high enough to clear the dashpad if you need to remove it (I put my crossovers in the old speaker locations) and check your mounting angle before final attachment. It's an easy modification and now the distance between my front and rear tweeters is almost identical from my listening position which makes setting up my time delays much easier. In a couple of weeks I will post how to modify the dash speaker locations to accept 5.25" mid speakers with a 3.5" mounting depth to get them away from your feet!

Re: component speakers
My original plan was to keep the mids in the kick panel area and have them flush mounted, which would require some cutting, but I didn't realize their was a support behind the metal panel under the kick panels and it helps support the lower door hinge. I just can't stand having the speakers eating up the footwell space... The dash woofer setup looks as though it will only require some air duct trimming for clearance and some modifications to the OEM speaker frames.
