Looking for new deck

I'm looking into getting a new deck fro my Firebird. I've always been a Sony fan, but everyone I talked to said Sony sucks. What are some decks that you like or could recommend.

This is what I have right now
Deck-Sony CDX-GT400.
Amp-Sony Mono. Speakers-
Alpine Type s 6x9's in the back, stock in the front.
Sub- 2 10" MTX 5500

JVC is the only brand that I've never had an issue with.

Re: Looking for new deck

I have always used Pioneer Super Tuners. I did have a JVC in mid 80's that had echo effect. It was wild as hell to listen too, only one I had ever seen. Have been looking for one with that effect ever since.

Re: Looking for new deck

I'm loving my Pioneer DEH-7800MP, the display is awesome and the feature list is insane. The faceplate also has a much better contact scheme than previous head units, so there should never be connectivity problems with this one.

Agree with JVC and when you get a newunit, make sure to get one with the USB port in front. Never need a CD again, LOL.

Re: Looking for new deck

I've always had great luck with Alpine, but you have to pay a lot more for extra features.

Pioneer is good, but stick with the Premier line. I've had problems with the base line Pioneer.

Dollar of dollar you can't beat a middle of the road Pioneer. And no real difference between the Premier line and plain old Pioneer. Well, some features and two year warranty (on Premier), but they use the same parts, even the same PCBs ***'ys. There all but the same. I can make my 8600 a 860, move two parts and add four.

Re: Looking for new deck

I ended up going with the Alpine CDA-9857. I know it's an 2006 model, but the 2007's didn't really do it for me. Plus I got a great deal on it. $310 (CND) including Tax and install.

Re: Looking for new deck

I just put in the Eclipse CD2000. It's the second Eclipse deck I've owned and if you don't mind the fact that it doesn't have a detachable faceplate, it has great features and sound.

Actually, thats not true on all models. For example, the X800 series (4800 5800 6800 7800) base model pioneer doesn't have the tuning features that the X80 series (480 580 680 780) pioneer premier series has.

Re: Looking for new deck

Alpine would be my first choice. I just found a deal on the 9856 model, (I'll just say under $200)installed. I'm going to pull the stock out for the new Alpine as soon as the winter weather goes away. My .02, you made a wise choice.

"... Well, some features and two year warranty (on Premier), ..."

I should have made it more clear I was more talking about build quality. Even though the difference in warranty. Yes there are some differences in the bells and wistles. But they are built from the same parts the same way. Even the same microprossesors programmed the same way. They just tell the pick-and-place to switch two resistors that tell the micro how to act, and some times load it up with a hand full different parts. You can make a 4800 a 480.
