Amp Configuration?

I got sick of having no music in my car so I just threw in an audiobahn 4x50w amp and 4 Infinity Reference speakers in the stock locations. Please note that I am a total car audio newb. I love high quality sound, but I save that for my bedroom. In a car its not important to me because I have all kinds of wind noise, rattles, and road noise that I cannot do anything about.

Rears: 100w RMS 4 ohm
Fronts: 40w RMS, 4 ohm

There are a lot of things I can mess with on this amp and I'd like to get it configured properly. I think I understand how high pass/low pass filters work, I figured I would run the rears with no filter and the fronts with the high pass filter. Then there is a dial for the HPF, should I just tune this by ear for what sounds best to me?

There is a dial for "level" that simply reads min and max. Turning it basically changes the volume for that channel. What is the proper way to set this? Is the idea here to take this down a notch for the fronts since the RMS rating for the amp is higher than the speakers? Or am I way off?

There is another dial for "Sub Sonic". Right now I have it off. What does this do and how should I configure it?

There are 4 RCA style inputs on the amp but I only have two outputs from my deck. So right now only the fronts are working, I can make the rears work by swapping RCA cables out into different inputs on the amp. Should I just get some splitters for the RCAs? Somebody told me to just stick both left and both right speakers into the same output terminals...but something in my head told me that is a very bad idea.

Thats all for now...thanks.

Re: Amp Configuration?

First off, did you read the manual that came with your Audiobahn amp? I looked at one online and it explains how to set the gain/level, all about HP/LP filters, etc.

I'm betting you won't be able to hear low sounds with the rears anyways, so you could run HPF on both. Try the default setting, and go from there.

Audiobahn (or your manual) on gain setting.

It filters out subsonic sound (read: super-low, subwoofer range). Your speakers won't be able to play it, so you can leave it on.

Keep the speakers on the same terminals, and you could split the RCA cables coming out of your deck, as your deck doesn't have separate front and rear outputs (meaning you won't have a choice when fading).

Thats all for now...thanks.
No problem.
