Short somewhere in the power antenna circuit
I went to school on Thursday morning listening to the radio and all was well. When I got back to my car to go back home in the afternoon, I turned on the head unit, expecting to hear the radio, and there was no sound. Then I noticed that the power antenna was not up. I could not hear anything no matter what volume I set the head unit at. I figured the amplifiers did not turn on. So if the amps didnt turn on and the antenna didnt go up, then something was wrong with the remote wire. I took out the head unit and the back metal part was too hot to hold.
I disconnected the power antenna and amplifier cables from the remote turn on wire in the head unit. I first tried connecting only the antenna to the remote wire and it didnt go up. Then I connected the amplifier wire to the remote wire and I finally hear music
So its my power antenna that has a short somewhere. My guess is that the relay failed. Does a failing relay cause what I described above? Also, if it is the relay, is it readily available at any auto parts store?
