quick question
will 8 guage wire support a memphis 4 channel amp? the amp was only rated at i believe 500 wats rms, it's a couple years old and was AB class, not d. I'll be running one dual voice coil 10 inch alpine type R off the rear channel and two memphis 6x9's off the front and let the head unit handle the 4x6's. the amp was running off a 4 guage wire in my camaro, but i had 8 guage for the car i'll be swappin the system into.
i think it'll be fine, but i wanted to double check. thanks alot guys.

Re: quick question
P = I x E or watts = current x voltage , but rms ( root means square ) doesn't always mean what it really should , companies like pyle and audiobahn have distorted what those numbers should actually be .
I would size my wire based on the fuses or the recomended fuse by the manufacture .

Re: quick question
sorry for the long interval there. Okay as far as fuses, the amp has a fuse on the outside of itself. (20 amp i believe) and i have one installed with about ten inches of 8 gauge wire between it and my battery kill switch, wired to the main power terminal. I plan on running a third fuse as a quick disconnect in the back by the sub box/amp itself. I'm planning on making everything quickly disconnectable and mounting the amp directly to the sub box so that on race day i just open the rear glove box, disconnect the wires and all the extra weight comes out of the rear. I know this would also make it easier for system thieves but i'm discreet and live in a nice area of town so i'm not too concerned. it won't be anything they would want anyways being just one lil ten and and an amp. also going to have the rear sun cover pulled all the time to keep it hidden.
