ported box help
I want to build the box that usually fits two 12's in the hatch. My box will only have the drivers side cut to house one 12 alpine type x. I want to know where to cut a vent so I could have a vented box. What should be the measurements of the cut? Should the box be open space? Please help cause I don't have time to F this up!

Re: ported box help
if your not sure ported might not be for you. to get this right you need to know the thiele/small parameters of the speaker itself. with these you can then tune the box to the speaker. this way you know how large of a box to make as well as how long to make the port since all these things effect the resonant frequency of the box which effects speaker cone motion and sound quality/volume.
if you don't worry about it and throw together a a box from guesses your speakers aren't going to sound very well and ported designs are MUCH easier to F up then a sealed design and in all honesty a not so good ported system can be worse then a royaly messed up sealed box. if done right they can sound great but are you sure you really want to try this right now?

Re: ported box help
First get the required airspace/port size that is needed for the sub, then do alot of math to get it on the dot. I have a dual 10 box that is ported and I have it tuned for blues/r&b because nothing sounds better that a little stevie ray to me but to my suprise the box will hit those low notes so hard it will rattle stuff off the roof. I spent about a week doing the math and going through different designs to get my air space and port size down but it is well worth it in the long run. But as all4u stated if your not comfortable doing it then have someone else do it or just go with factory spec because that is usually a good all around size and gives you the widest band of frequencys.
