Wattage question..
So I have two Alpine 10: 1042 dual voice coil 4 ohm subs that require 500W RMS. If I want to run both of them in a 4ohm setup to get the best audio clarity and hard hit (from what I've read) I will need a single channel amp that will distribute 1000W X1 at 4ohms? I've been trying to do all my research for awhile on power distribution but I just had that quick question. Thanks guys/gals!

Re: Wattage question..
well my question is dose the set need 500rms or each sub need 500 rms
but if you wire each 4 ohm sub's voice coils in parell you can wire the subs in series that would give you a 4 ohm load over all
if the set takes 500 wats RMS then a 500 watt AMP is what your going to want
some people would get a 2 channel amp and bridge it others would get a mono block amp and run it that way its kinda like 12 or a dozen its whichever you can get your bang for the buck out of

Re: Wattage question..
You could get an amp that can put out 1000 watts RMS and is stable at 1 ohm (doesn't have to be that high - a good 500 WRMS amp would do). Wire your subs parallel so you present a 1 ohm load to the amp. Probably get those subs to hit pretty hard with that configuration.
Here are a couple of wiring options for you, one is for a 4 ohm load, the other for a 1 ohm load.

Re: Wattage question..
An amp that is 1 ohm stable is going to cost more than one that isn't...
If each sub can handle 500 watts rms, I'm assuming 250 each voice coil... Each voice coil is 4 ohms, wire 1 voice coil to another in series, (8 ohm) then wire the 2 subs up to the amp parallel (4 ohms)... If you have a 1ch mono amp...
2 channel amp? Find a 2 ohm stable one... or one that can bridge to 1 channel 4 ohm. Or a 4 channel 250watt rms amp would work too...
As noted, as ohm load decreases, distortion usually goes up...

Thank you everyone for your posts. I got the HiFonics brutus 1606D amp and will be wiring the subs to a 1ohm configuration.
