Alarms...show pics of how you mounted your hood / trunk pinswitches
Title says it all, I'm curious where you guys that were smart enough to install a alarm where you mounted your pin switches in the hood and trunk area.
Thanks

You mount them in the hood and trunk area, when the hood or trunk is lifted it cause a grounded signal to got back to the alarm and cause it to go off.

On mine, the hatch triggers the alarm when the cargo light turns on, no pin switch. I did have one put in for the hood, I had to attach a small piece of sheet metal to the underside of the hood so the pin switch has something flat to strike against.

Does the cargo light come on when the hatch is raised? I glanced at mine and it only came on when you flipped the switch and stayed on unless I turned off the switch.

I dont want to sound like a putdown for information, but isnt this really just telling everyone how to get into your car without setting anything off by telling them hey, a pin is here, and here, and if opened 1/4" it goes off.

Now if I asked something like "where did you mount your siren" or "Where did you mount your control module" That would be a different story.

Re: Alarms...show pics of how you mounted your hood / trunk pinswitches
a previous owner of my Trans Am had a pin switch installed in the top of the passenger side taillight housing... which annoys me because now it has a hole in it and I have to replace it. I actually didn't realize what the switch was for until I read this thread. The newer alarms I've had replace the pin switch with a mercury switch.

Not really, because they would not be able to access the pinswitch w/o raising the hood or trunk.....which they would do anyways....by then it's too late the alarm is activated .
Now if I asked something like "where did you mount your siren" or "Where did you mount your control module" That would be a different story.

Yes, my cargo light comes on whenever the hatch is raised, just like a trunk light. Didn't know they had switches.

Oh yeah, my bad. I forgot some years had a on/off switch mounted on the trim panel.

the electronic pull down motor has a switch in it that you can tap into for hatch security. as for hood, i really do not recommend pin switches. they rust and get stuck or break. mercury switches (or ball bearing switches) are little peices that you mount on the actual hood (or if you wished hatch) and when the angle of the hood is adjusted the mercury rolls back and closes to wires thus grounding.
I have never seen one go bad other than when sombody physically broke it. Downside is that it has to be adjusted properly. For example, you set the switch perfectly ona flat surface but if you park up a hill the mercury rolls back and the switch is grounded out b4 the hood is popped. A decent alarm will ignore a zone that is violated at the time of arming alarm, but if you also have a remote start it will not start.
I personally don't have a pin switch or merc switch on my hood because it looks cleaner and if you properly set your shock sensor the anybody under the hood will set off your alarm.
Make sure when you mount a siren that you point it down so as not to collect water and set it up in a way that it isnt going to be filled with water. A water logged siren sounds like broken doggy chew toy.
I have no problem posting up some details on my cars security system because I have covered every base. There is a back up battery on my alarm so cutting my battery cables only sets off an additional siren that could make your ears cry. I have multiple sirens so its not as simple as snip to a scilent alarm. I have a proximity sensor so on the off chance i leave my tops out or windows down (my alarm rolls my windows up for me
so that would be a rarity) and some one reaches their grimmy hand in its goin off. I have installed countless security systems so I know the typical security system mounting location and locations of wires and I did the complete opposite. To date no one (and I have had some pretty skilled people attempt) can locate any component of my security system aside from the antenna, led, and 2 of the sirens. Plus my car is just a faded red l03 camaro with nothing to steal.
The best advice I would give to anybody is to make everything look factory. Run any wires under your hood in the factory loom if possible, if not get sme BLACK split loom and cover the wires. Any wires that you are going to attach under you dash should be covered in black electical tape or concealed in some way. The best way to install an alarm is to do what is called a prewire.
What I mean by that is to locate all the wires in your car, make a note of where they are and then bench prep your alarm. Group all wires that are going to the same location ie. underhood wires, kick panel wires, ignition harness. After you have grouped them wrap em up with black tape that way when a anybody pokes their head under your dash it doesnt look like a thousand multi colored snakes going ever which way.
sorry for the rant but I am currently unemployed and have nothing better to do
