WIRING HARNESS HELP??

Hey guys.

When i hooked my Sony Xplod head unit into my car last year, the power supply for the radio was no where to be found, so i just hooked it right into the fuse box. After having to fix my gauges i realized that the genius that hooeked them up, hooked them into the sterio power supply. I fixed that and now have all of the wires open for the sterio and want to hook it up right. Problem is that i dont remember what the hell goes where, and for some stupid reason i didnt get a smart harness. I still have the factory harness that was on the car that we cut off. Would it be easier to figure out which wires connect to which, or to rehook up the factor harness, matching the colors and then just get a smart harness?

Also, since ill prolly atleast try to just match wires, can i get a chart or something that shows which colors are what? A chart for a sony explod head unit would be great too if anyone has it! Thanks.

ya i have a 86 and a 89, and I know the wire harness is the same, with the white black and blue plugs, and it uses the same wireharness adapter for aftermarket headunits. idk

can anybody tell me what the "lights on" input is for? my 92 RS has a pioneer deck in it and whenever the key is turned on the parking lights come on. Also when the key is off and you turn the parking lights on the radio comes on. I found the grey wire was hooked to the yellow wire from the stereo. Any thoughts?

FYI the brown dimmer light is not hooked up at all.

Re: WIRING HARNESS HELP??

I unhooked the grey wire and now the parking lights come on when they are supposed to. Just wondering if I just leave those grey and brown wires alone since there is no hook up to the pioneer deck for them.

Re: WIRING HARNESS HELP??

The grey wire is for the instrument panel light circuit. ON with parking or headlights. Brown dims the display(clock/station)

cool thanks. I just capped off the grey wire and the brown wire from the factory harness. The radio lights up whenever its turned on and has no wire hook up for any lights. I hate it when somebody hooks up aftermarket stereos and doesn't know what they're doing.
