New amp?

Ok so I upgraded my stereo system. I got a well box with 2 spots for a 12 inch sub. Each sub compartment is separated. I got two new subs that are 4 ohm DVC. The amp I have is only 2 ohm stable. I'm new at wiring subs and Ive looked online for a way to have it go to my amp at 2 ohms. I may be wrong but if Im hooking two subs up to my amp at 2 ohms wouldnt the total load be 4 ohms? Im not getting any bump at all out of the subs and they eventually cut out. Thats why I thought the total load was 4 ohms because Im thinkin my amp is going into protect mode. I figure I need a new amp and would like one anyways cuz sony amps say they put out more watts then they actually do and personally I think they suck. BUT I cant get a new amp in about a week or so and I hate listening to music without a sub so I was wondering if someone could help me out. The amp is a sony xplod 1100w amp, two channels. The subs are memphis prs 4 ohm DVC. Thank you in advance.

Re: New amp?

If u are wiring both 4 ohm coils in the sub, each sub is gonna give u an ohm load of 2.That ohm load of 2 combined is gonna put an ohm load of 1 on the amp.So u need an amp thats 1 ohm stable if u wanna squeeze every ounce of bass outta your subs.
Add the total RMS wattage of your subs and get an amp thats capable of that or a little more and make sure its 1 ohm stable.

Make sure you stay away from pyle, power acoustik, audiopipe, lanzar, boss, nitro, pyramid
etc etc

Also make sure ur power cables are the right gauge for the amp you are planning on running.

Re: New amp?

Dang so I was wrong. This stuff confuses me. So is the lower number the next step up? For example you said 2x 2 ohm loads would make it 1 ohm at the amp so if I had two 4 ohm going to the amp would that make it a 2 ohm total load? Maybe Im just thinking to mathematical and this is watts and ohms and makes no sense to me . Again thanks in advance for helping out a newbie

Re: New amp?

yes, when u add ohms, the resistance drops by half, less resistance means more power flow.
more power is gonna flow through a 2 ohm speaker than in a 4 ohm,but theres also more chance of distortion.

Make sure that if you are gonna wire both coils you check this out.

And yes,2 2ohm loads would put a load of 1 ohm on the amp.

anymore q's dont hesitate askin =]

Re: New amp?

So if I had the subs wired like this http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/..._4-ohm_2ch.jpg and had 2 8 ohm loads what would be the max load on the amp? I know how Im going to wire the subs when I get a new amp but like I said its probably going to be at least a week until I get the new sub and I hate driving without bass and my speakers aren't bassy so I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can make the amp work for now. It was working before but I didn't have the subs wired any of the ways I saw on crutchfield so I change them and now it doesn't work
