Idiot here - 4ch amp help

Wanting a 4ch amp to run the dash and sail panel speakers. Not needing anything extremely fancy, mind blowing, or ear drum popping - just a decent amp to provide crisp clean sound to the four speakers. Looking at like 75 watts per channel I guess - I have a standard head unit that provides 50 watts per channel, but I know the head unit sound is no where near as good as a seperate amp will sound at higher volumes. But I'm an idiot when it comes to frequency response, Total Harmonic Distortion, and all these other terms.

So what should I be looking for?

I need new speakers, but I don't want anything that has to be 'special' for the amp - I'd like to stay with just decent off-the-shelf speakers that will handle the increased wattage.

Do I need to be looking at ohms per channel as well?

Just need some help with the right 'numbers' to look for in a decent 4ch amp to control normal off-the-shelf 6x9's and 4x6's. Thanks!

I have this amp hooked up in our van and it sounds nice 85 watts rms per channel http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...SL+F4.800.html
and for speakers I'd use Alpine all around my friend has the 6x9 type r's in his truck and they sound nice and clear.

I had the 4 channel and 2 channel Soundtream Reference Amps in my 86 and they were great, wish I kept them.

I am currently running an Alpine 4 channel amp (old school V12 series), I think it's 35watts RMS/channel and they run my off the shelf MA Audio 4x6 and 6x9's perfect.
It is not deafening but loud enough to hear at 70mph with the tops off and windows down with my semi loud borla exhaust.

If you plan on running a sub, there is a nice kenwood 5 channel amp that isn't too expensive, maybe $300.

My brother has a Soundstream DaVinci 5 channel that sounds incredible in his 96 Trans Am, components up front, 6 1/2 rear and 2 10" subs.
Much much louder and cleaner than my setup.

Sound is a very subjective thing. Everyone's ears are different. Try to listen to a few sets and see what sounds best for you.

As for a good amp, have a look at Alpine, Kenwood or Cadence. Good value for the money.
