What size of speakers?

I have a 1982 Firebird that has no cd player or speakers. I am fixing all of the little things and about to start on my audio system. Does anyone know what the size of the dash speakers and the back seat speakers?

Re: What size of speakers?

Thanks! Cool now I know! Now I just need to figure out a very good brand because I would really like to enjoy a great audio system in this car, becaue its my 4 banger work car!

I already have the rear compartment with the built in dual 10" sub box. And I already have subs/amp from my truck so now I just need a good head unit and 4 speakers!

Any suggestions?

Re: What size of speakers?

When I bought all my audio stuff I wanted to get all the same brand. I ended up with 4x6 alpine type s's in the dash, 6x9 alpine type r's in the rear, 2 12" alpine type s subs, and I already had an alpine cda-9884 head unit. Im definitly happy with the sound quality especially since I didnt spend as much $ as i expected.

Re: What size of speakers?

Id say depending on how much you want to spend and how loud you want it to be will depend on what you need to get. Like the guy above me i like to get all the same name brand stuff. But you will never get real good sound out of 4x6 speakers they are just too small to put any real power too. I always go with Alpine for my head unit just because of personal prefrence the set up im going with in my 82 is this

1.) Alpine Head Unit
2.) Diamond Audio S400s 4" Component speakers
3.) Diamond Audio 393i 6x9 Speakers
4.) Diamond Audio Hex 700/4 Amp
5.) Diamond Audio Hex 750/1 Amp
6.) Diamond Audio 12" HP12 Subwoofer

Now this is going to be a really loud system but it will also be amazing sound quality wise and i can get the whole system off line for about $1700. I am doing my whole car in Dynamat and putting foam behond all my plastics to stop the rattling. If anyone hear has ever heard Diamond Audio they know that they are all about sound quality!

So really its up too you but you can get the diamond audio S400s hex speakers offline for about $300 retail was $600 i think and they will amaze you if you can put 100watts RMS to them ! most 4x6 speakers can only handle 35 to 50 watts RMS
