1986 Camaro missing switch power for CD Deck
1986 Camaro missing switch power for CD Deck
Hi all,
The CD player in my camaro would not turn off with the car. My solution ( and the previous owner's) was to just take the faceplate off when you turn the car off.
He said he wired it himself, so i figured I could get in there and fix the problem.
When I opened it up, I saw that he wired half of the deck wires with nothing but tape.... so I replaced all of those connections. He also had yellow (constant power), and orange wire and a clear wire all spliced together with the switch and constant power on the deck. Well that makes sense...
I did some fiddling around and I came to the conclusion that those orange and clear wires have nothing to do with the power, and there is not a red wire anywhere in the console. There is a grey wire, and some misc. wires that look like speaker wires. The grey one doesn't do anything, but I haven't tried the others yet. There's an orange and white set of wires that looks like it connects to the speedometer array - I can't get behind there to confirm it but there isn't any slack and it's connected to something else on the other side of the car. There's also another small orange wire that goes into the steering wheel area as well.
Anyone know which wire is switch power and/or a wire I can splice into or bring into the console for the deck?

Alright.... I figured something else out. ORANGE is constant power.
Yellow doesn't do anything. And according to this, it should be the right one:

Any ideas?

Well I have 2 yellow wires in there. One of them is paired up with a brown wire and it doesn't power anything so I'm assuming it's a speaker wire.
The other one is a little thicker and it looks like it should be the power wire but it doesn't turn the radio on... Anyone know what exactly the yellow power wire connects to?
I tried using the gray wire and it turns the deck on, but only when the headlights are on
