Re: looking to install head unit

easiest way involves a wiring adapter and a mounting kit

mounting kit allows a standard, single-DIN size radio to fit the gm DIN+1/2 opening.
wiring adapter has a plug that snaps into place with your factory wiring and bare wires on the other end. these bare wires are soldered/heat shrinked or crimped (do NOT just twist and tape. bad bad bad for a car environment) to the bare ends of the new radio's harness.

all wires are color coded and the instruction manuals with both the radio and wiring adapter will have a pin out of their harness connections.

Re: looking to install head unit

The best part about the adapter harness, besides the fact that it keeps your car intact, is that it lets you do all of your connections on a work bench instead of buried inside of a hole in the dash board.

Here's a write-up that I did a few years ago (scratch that... over 10 years ago now!!) that might help:

Re: looking to install head unit

You're one of the lucky ones to have the car's wiring harness intact. To install a stock deck in my 89, I had to get the harness for the radio and connect that to the cut harness in the radio hole
