Hidden radio installation - where's the best place?

Hey guys,

I'd like to install a modern radio (USB, SD, ...) into my Firebird but without replacing the original Delco cassette-deck of the center console as I set value on the authentic look of the car.
My problem is that the old trick - to place it in the glove box - doesn't really work with the 3rd Gen. Also is the room in the storage bin under the armrest not deep enough!

I'd really appreciate your hints, tipps and (serious ) creativity!

Kind regards from Bavaria,
MANU

if worst comes to worst & you can't find a good spot, try under the seat. most new head units come with remotes so you could use that when your driving, since you wouldnt be able to look at it if its under the seat. it wouldnt be too hard to run the wires & keep them hidden either. i know its not the Most creative or the Most ideal spot, but im just giving you a back-up plan.
greetings from sunny Miami, Florida. US.

Hi ChevyHeavy,
thanks for your fast reply. I'll have a try with the "under the seat"-idea tomorrow. I hope it'll work: as much as I know the room between the floor of the car and the seat isn't as much as the one in my other German cars.
Let's see ...

Thanks so far,
MANU

In the past I've made custom kits that move the CD player back in to the console more. Then I took the factory head unit and took the faceplate off to make a fake "cover" to go back in the console.

SWTWCGTA has a good idea. but my best guess to where would be easier would be under the seat like chevyheavy said.

Re: Hidden radio installation - where's the best place?

Thanks for your nice answers. I tried to install it under the seat but in my car the room is not big enough. I started to install the head unit into the trunk (I'll use a remote control) and light the original delco unit with an external LED electric circuit. sounds circumstantial - but it'll work ;-)
I'll keep you guys updated.

Kind regards from my vacation in Denmark
