Speaker Question...
The front passanger speaker in my 92 RS is making a strange noise, I guess you would call it a crackling sound, there is sound coming out the the speaker. But what I noticed yesterday is that even with the radio turned off I can still hear the crackling sound coming out of it.
Every once in a while it all most completely stops, but then will come back a little while later. Don't think the spearker ever got blown from being played to loud as it was my moms before she gave it to me and she hardley even listened to the radio in it.
Thinking it might be a wire coming loose, bad wire or the wire might have gotten worn out over the years and lost some of it's shielding.
Though I would ask the experts before I started to tear into it. Its still got the original AM/FM Cassett Stock radio in it also.

Re: Speaker Question...
well if you consider they are 20 yrs. old , could old age have taken it's toll ? just remove dash pad , inspect speakers & wires . my bet is they are just dried out . i say this because i just replaced both my front speakers . WoW , what an improvement . got a set of SONY 4X6's at wal-mart for less than 40bux . heat & UV will affect speakers just like dash pads . you can protect dash pads but not much for speakers . good luck .

Re: Speaker Question...
I give 9x10 odds the voice coil cracked, you have to consider a couple things, firstly its old as dirt both in terms of age and technology of the time, 2ndly unless your mom is the only owner it could very well have been cracked by a PO, or even her, you never know, but when I put my headunit in I blew out one of the speakers after like a minute and a half of godsmack. Even a current bottom line speaker will sound much better than stock, oh and the cones have probably disintegrated as well btw.

Thank's guys will take a look at the speakers and see what they look like, probably just way to old and starting to wear out. Only owner the car had was my mom, since she bought it in 92.
