Bose system has taken a poop..

Looking to replace the bose system that was in the car with something more modern. I may want to put a small sub in the back of the car if the price is right along with some good quality speakers. Im not looking for anything that will win awards or make people think it sounds amazing. Just something that is good because right now the car has no speakers in it. Just a aftermarket radio.

Re: Bose system has taken a poop..

if the deck has taken a dive, now's a great time to rip it all out and start fresh. there are those who like it for its originality, but you can do MUCH better sound-wise without breaking the bank.

Get yourself a deck that has at least 1 set of pre-outs so you can add a sub (2+ if you want to amplify speakers as well). A midrange Clarion, Alpine, Pioneer, JVC will run you about $150-200, but there are specials online all the time. I just ordered a JVC deck with 2 usb inputs, an aux, and bluetooth for under $100 shipped.

Speakers are almost always personal preference - so you gotta check em out yourself to know what you like. 4x6 is stock for the front of non-Bose systems, but some have made 5 1/4s work in the dash with some work (6 1/2s with a bit more effort). Rears are 6x9, but you can also use 6 1/2s with an adapter. In a perfect world, you should match the front and rear speakers from the same line so that there is no big difference in frequency response to draw your ears one way or the other.
