Clock backlighting problem on monsoon stereo
Hello everyone, thought I better get some advice before I go tearing into this head unit. I picked up a monsoon style head unit from a 97 T/A for installation in my 91 Firebird and it has been working great for several months.
Today when I started the car I noticed immediately that the orange screen with the clock and CD timer no longer illuminates. The stereo still works fine as do all the orange lights on the buttons, its as if the backlight bulb for the screen has burned out or something. I tried tapping on the screen a few times with no result but thats about the most I can do without taking the stereo apart.
Do these monsoon style stereos have a backlight bulb for the clock screen that can be replaced, or will I have to replace the entire screen? I would have assumed something like this was LeD based and burnt bulbs wouldn't be a problem, but perhaps not.
Anyone had this happen before, and what all was required to fix it? Please let me know if anyone has some advice.
Thanks

Re: Clock backlighting problem on monsoon stereo
There is a bulb that lights up the display.
is a complete video on how to take the radio apart, and how to replace the bulb. In that video, he solders in a new bulb from RadioShack. He says a direct replacement bulb will cost $20, but for $8 on Amazon. All you have to do with this is screw it in. I would just buy this, as it is easier and almost impossible to screw up.
