Missing Factory Speakers?
Missing Factory Speakers?
Hi all, i have have had my camaro since 2004 when i was in high school. Basicly blew the speakers out within a few months. Between getting a new truck after graduation, cutting back on wasteful spending and life in general i never got around to changing the speakers. The car is a 1989 with the bose delco system. I finally started this little project last week and read on the factory radio that bose speakers only work with the factory radio vice versa. As the speakers were basicly all blown i wanted to replace them any way, and because the factoy radio didnt have a aux in for my smart phone i planed on putting one of the head units i had laying around in the grage.
Got the new radio in then proceded to remove the old speakers. I looked on crutchfield and they say: Dash, Front Door, and Rear Seat Side Panel. So i took down the cover on the drivers side sail panel and found nothing. Theres no speaker, no bracket, no wire, just empty hole. I stuck my head and looked up, down, left, right nothing. Had my hand all the way down to the bottom of the car and nothing. Very strange in my opinion am i missing something here? So i then moved to the passenger side and took that panel off. This side also had no speaker but in its plac was a square insulation type material. It definitly looked factory not something just thrown in. I took that out and did the same investigation for the wire and nothing! Can someone please give me some any insight on this. I included two pictures i quickly snapped today. Also with these bose speakers am i able to run them off the factory wires just unplug old speakers and plug into new speakers? thx for any help, Al III

The speaker wire is between the plastic and the metal that's why you haven't found it, you can try to dig it out of there or you can run a nEw set of wires. You will need to cut off the pigtail on the connector and strip the wires use a bit more speaker wire and splice them together. Usually aftermarket 6x9s are a bit bigger and you can only put in 2 or 3 of the screws
Re: Missing Factory Speakers?
there should be a metal plate behind the sail panel with a hole for 6x9 speakers. your car might have had the bose stereo witch put two speakers in the front at the kick panels and two speakers in an enclosure in the hatch.

Re: Missing Factory Speakers?
I had the Bose sytem in my IROC and they were no speakers under the dash or in the sail panels. Each speaker had it own amp and they were located in the front kick panels and the read deck lid. The metal speaker mounting bracket came in the lesser stereos.
Re: Missing Factory Speakers?
Hmm so with the bose i shouldnt even bother ripping apart the dash becuase theres no speakers there? i would simply just turn the radio on and listen for myself but like i said I allready have the aftermarket radio in so no speakers are working currently. And thats weird that the bose was the best radio system you could order but it didnt come with 6x9's in the sail panels. Are the wire still ran to the location? Also took apart the drivers side kick panel and did see the mini amp for the factory speakers. Can i just leve all that intact and connect the + and - off the factory speakers into my new speakers without tearing everything apart? Thanks for your help guys its saving my alot of time not having to tear my car apart as i would like to remove as little as possible. Al

Re: Missing Factory Speakers?
i had run new wires to the sail panels hunted down the mounting brackets ran new wire to the dash. Now had my stereo guy make me kick panel speakers and some 5" round woofer not sub woofer in the rear deck lid I may add a 5way amp and keep the speakers in the sail panels also.
