suggestions for audio system

Im wanting to install new speakers and stereo into my ta but after looking on amazon and ebay there is way too much to choose from. Im not up on all the new technology so im looking for some help. Im not looking for anything high end or with a lot of componets as im trying to keep the weight down but I want something that will sound good at decent volume as im driving down the highway. I would prefer something to go in the stock locations. I have found 3way 2way and 5way 6x9s and don't know where to start. As far as decks go I found a nice stock piece from a 08 vette will that fit in the stock radio position? What newer stock radios fit our cars? Im not sold on using a stock radio but I like the stock appearance. Thanks for any input.

you dont want any gm deck, new/old/bose/etc, even the 100-200 dollar head units are infinitely better. as far as what you want there are way too many variables to give you a valid suggestion. you should go to best buy or some of the higher end stereo shops and play with stuff and see what sounds good. then buy it online. soniceletronix is a good one because they will give you the mounts and connectors free. kind of music and budget are big factors too

i like clarion headunits because they have very good sound quality and all the newest features. i like polk speakers because they have that mid to high frequency clarity, they just HAVE to be amped and must be accompanied by a sub

So many options, questions... Have a smart phone with bluetooth? Then get a deck that has bluetooth too... Great for streaming music and GPS via phone... Got a lot of MP3's? Get one with USB and a flash dive for inexpensive access... Going down the highway with the windows up or down? If up, you could probably get by with the built in amp, but you will get better sound from a separate amp... want a sub? That will also dictate which amp you get...

As you can see, there are literally millions of choices to make and you can spend anywhere from a little to a whole lot! I'd also definitely ditch the stock head unit idea, get a decent aftermarket unit and build from there. Basically, you should know that all 3rd gens have room for dash speakers (4x6's) and sail panel (6x9's) so I'd start on those and decide what you want to spend total for your whole system and start adding things up.

How much are you thinking of spending here? You could put together a decent sounding system for around $200 at the bottom end if you install it yourself and keep it simple and from there you can basically spend as much as you want, the sky's the limit!

Also, what are you looking for from your stereo, you mentioned playing it a highway speeds and getting decent sound, how important is the bass? If you want a little boom, or even just a nice solid kick from your music, then you probably want to look into adding a subwoofer as well.

So, I'd start with those two questions-how much do you want to spend and what are you looking for sound-wise?
