Cooling Fan Issue

Working on my son's 85 2.8L 5 speed Firebird.
He had a small fire from a grounded alternator hotwire that torched the battery cable, junction block/associated wires, fusible link near the air box and some of the black harness conduit. I've since replaced the affected wiring. Everything works well except the cooling fan.
In place of the fusible link I put a 20A mini-fuse in its place. The cooling fan will work when checking codes with a jumper wire. However when engine reaches operating temperature for the fan to kick on the fuse blows. I've tried a new fan relay with no change. To me this suggests a short somewhere along the line of the fan switch or the fuse set-up is not equivalent to the fusible link...Any suggestions?

Welcome To The fan Club

Replace that fuse with the original type Fusible Link.

The fuse cannot take the starting surge of the fan motor too many times without failing.

Happy Racing !

Thanks...after some more research that is the conclusion I came to as well. Picked one up yesterday and hope to have it in tomorrow.
