Sub Location on 86' Trans Am.

i just recently bought a 1986 TA and was told that it came with a factory sub. The previous owner had no clue where it was when he bought it. i was wondering because i would like to replace it. if anyone knows were i can locate it that would be great!

if you have the "premium sound" option there are 5.25in woofers behind the rear sail panels with 4x6 mid/highs. there is also a little sign that says that by the radio and a button and gain control on the dash. they go bad all the time, if you want to keep it stock you can have it rebuilt i guess, or you can do like i did and go get a 6x9 panel from a regular car and enjoy a million times better selection of aftermarket speakers.

See the panel with the Performance Suspension Badge,(under the Pouch)remove that,it's under their(tucked up under the Pouch). And notice the switch to the left of the rear defogger switch, that's for the subs, press for on and off(light will come on when on)and the slide increases the Bass.If your going to keep it original(restore) the subs have to be rebuilt, they are no longer available,I had mine rebuilt. If you need some of those parts for the UQ7 sound system(switch, amp etc,)PM my82roc,he should have what you need.

Re: Sub Location on 86' Trans Am.

Ian Kee at Kee Audio in Atlanta, GA rebuilt mine with custom built subs, and some kick a** 4 x 6 plates front and rear. He switched the subs from the original 4 Ohm to 2 Ohm coils which gives them more thump without having to upgrade the factory 18 watt subwoofer amp. I sent him the boxes, and he rebuilt them with all new insulation, seals, basically making them like new again. I have a 12 disc Pioneer remote mounted CD player feeding the OE HU. The HU will still play cassette tapes, which everyone at the shows thinks is cool. The system impresses everyone who hears it, as it sounds aftermarket, but looks stock.
