Tips for pushing down stuck antenna

Does anybody have any tricks on removing the antenna assembly with the antenna still up? I have tried pushing it straight down, twisting it while pushing, both with the motor running (in both directions) and off. I've tried to force it out of the fender, but I'm afraid I'll bend the antenna assembly.

I've read the "rebuild thread" but there are no real "how-tos" it seems.

Help? Worst case scenario, would this be a direct-fit to my original assembly if I get frustrated and cut the antenna? - http://www.ebay.ca/itm/82-92-Camaro-...8fe875&vxp=mtr

Re: Tips for pushing down stuck antenna

So a bit of an update, I finally got the assembly out without cutting it or getting it down. I found if you twist it 180 degrees so that the bracket is pointing towards you, you're able to pull it out. The mast will bend a bit, but not enough to do any real damage. It can be straightened out.

Unfortunately though, in my case, I think the nylon cord broke or is caught up inside the mast itself. Even after removing it entirely from the casing/motor/gear assembly, I cannot remove seem to remove the top piece of the antenna and what's left of the cord.

So right now I'm either going to buy a new mast and try that (second option) or find myself a rebuilt one on here and just plug it in and go (first option).

What a pain these things are....
