You get what you pay for. A powerful amp is the biggest contributer to a 'booming' system. A kicker ZR240 is about the best bang-for-the-buck amp out there. Somewhere around $350 with the crossover, and it puts out an honest 500+ watts when pushing a bridged 2 ohm load.

The best Kenwood combo is 2 DB-12's and the XM-401 amp. 500W at 2 ohm mono but its kinda expensive. Kicker has some good sub amps these days but don't rule out anyone else. If you are looking for power and will only use the amp for subs find a D class amp because it uses less power since it is more efficient only problem is it is only for bass. MTX, Kicker and Rockford Fosgate are about the best right now for the average person. I would get the Kenwood DB subs though.

if u dont make much money buy it used. thats what i do, its cheaper and still the same great sound. the only thing is, dont skimp on wiring, it is very important. if u have a 500 watt amp make sure u use at least 8 gauge power/ground wires. and to save yourself some more money, do the intsall yourself.

I'm not too sure how well my amp would work for a sub, but my new Eclipse 33230 amp would be 400 watts at 4 ohms bridged, and costs $370 retail (my friend at Tweeter got it for me for $220 after discount)

Like I said, I don't know how well it would work for a sub, but it sounds great powering my new Polks and Bostons.
