I'm trying to find a place to mount an amp in the back of my Firebird. As of right now, I have a custom box for the 12's taking up all the room back there. I was told not to drill down into the hump due to the gas tank being right underneath but I'm running out of ideas. The car is stripped down to bare metal so I can't even do something like velcro not that I ever would. Any help or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

What I did in my car was, I cut a piece of 5/8 plywood I had lying around to the dimensions of the rear well floor (with carpet) then bolted the amp to the plywood, wedging the plywood into the carpet kept the amp solidly placed. The only problem I had the sub box closed off the rear well and the amp would over heat and the thermal switch would trip, so I got me one of those small cooling fans for a computer tower and built a bracket for it so the fan could blow air across the amp and no matter what the amp wouldn't over heat.

Now I'm in the process of removing all the aftermarket stuff to put my car back to factory original...my "thump thump" days are over lol!

 

How about in the spare tire well, or the locking box on the drivers side? There is typically enough ventilation to stop any overheating issues.

 

i agree, i would think this would be better than in the direct sun all the time
