I found these that seems to have a similar shape to the originals in my car but are 8 ohm impedance. I measured the originals and they had 7.7 ohm DC Resistance (10 ohm impedance). These have 8.11 ohm DC resistance so they might be OK to use with the factory amp. GRS 4FR-8 Full-Range 4-1/2" Speaker Pioneer Type A11EC80-02F 8 Ohm
Going to order 2 and see how they compare to my repaired originals.
OK, now you're talking about subs replacement, not 4x6
I seen the subs at PartsExpress. I just love the WARNING for Ca. Residents! Ha! See below
(BTW...I lived out there for 24 years, Edwards AFB/ California City)
California Prop 65
Warning: California residents only. Please note per Proposition 65 that this product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
So, I'd watch them if I were you!!!!!!!

Reason: more info
What!?! I just tried ordering some online at various stores including Summit Racing and was told by all that they were now discontinued and were not available
Just checked gmpartsdirect.com and it also says they are discontinued.

I'm not sure about the Ohms either ,speakers are not marked. You can't tell the difference at all in the sound

In my 1984 Trans Am, the front speakers are the 10 ohm (16033662) speakers. The rear 4x6" speakers are 4 ohm and have a connector on the two wires.
My subwoofers are different from the ones shown previously in this thread. Mine are 4.5" subs (diameter measured from opposite areas between mounting holes). It appears that larger subs were used in later years.
Yes that's correct,85-88 used 5 1/4 round
Here are the subs I am repairing:
Note the inverted replacement foam surround. From what I read, being inverted should not matter.

I just read that it's OK to go from a 4 ohm to 10,but not 10 to 4.
Here's one of the receipts from the GM Dealer, I can't find the last one witch would have been about year, year and a half ago.I bought them because the only difference was the pigtail wire in witch I bought the pigtails from member my82roc and soldered them onto the wire prongs.

Huh, 10 ohms ? That would be odd. Pretty sure they switched to 4 ohms in 1983 with the "newer" aqua color display radios (older were yellow/orange). And I think the later 2nd gens used 4 ohms too, but I don't know for sure.
I'm using 4 ohms all around in my '84 with the original UU6 unit, no problem at all.
Also the original front 4x6 and rear 6x9 speakers from my '89 parts car are 4 ohms, can't remember the part number though. I'm actually using the two front ones in my '84.
I have a set of 6x9s out of a 88 TA and they are 4 ohms ans I also have the original front 4x6s and they are 10ohms.I was checking the 86 service manual for the speaker ohms but it's not listed, but the Sub switch (it shows that)should show 10,000 ohm resistence test(does that mean 10ohm?)

OK,I checked all the speakers,Front's Rears and Subs, they all read 0.01,does that mean 10,000 ohms ?
An 8-ohm speaker will read around 6.2 on the meter. This is completely normal.
10 OHM will also read a little less than 10, LIKE 8.5 ish.
If the speakers are out of the car and not connected, you should get a closer reading. And I know you have the power off if in the car. Try reversing the wires, you want Red on Pos and Black on ground, but you know that too!
It's good. Stick some paper clips in a 120 volt outlet and grab hold of them. If it shocks you, take the clips out and insert the probes of the multimeter in on the 200 VOLTS setting, You should get like 110-125V. I am being really funny now on a rainy Sunday!

I guess after reading through all of these post', I'm gonna haft to say yes, 10 ohm. I didn't measure ANY of mine, nor took the subs out yet. But by the way one of the subs look; the right side, it needs help. Half of the surround is gone but the cone is perfect. The repair kit should work well. I'll measure all of them when I take em out.
Way too cool! Just checked the 89 TTA and nothing on them. My 88 GTA is down the street in storage so don't know about it. Was that an early year thing
I just got a email from GMPARTSDIRECT and their saying that the 4x6s are no longer available. Now, I'm wondering, is it just them, because I just bought 4 from my local Dealer not too long agoAre they just to lazy to order a set or what.

Yeah, I got one of those emails too. So........I am on a mission to find them!
I'm going up to the GM Dealer that I got mine from tomorrow and check,I'll let you know.
Great, maybe you'll luck out! I got my sub repair kit today! YAY! Ordered on Thursday from California, quick trip. Now I have THAT to do! I need to retire so I can play. 13 to go!
So to sum it up, what is the correct impedance for the UQ7 system speakers :
- front 4x6
- rear 4x6
- rear subwoofers
I'm trying to replace the subs and rear speakers but I have no idea what I should use.
The front ones are the factory ones from a 1989 model and still sound allright.
