what makes a good sound area (term?)
what makes a good sound area (term?)
I believe there is a term for a system's "field". I've ridden in a thirdgen where it sounded like everything was coming from the rear side (which it was... the sail panel speakers). There were speakers in the dash of course, but they seemed inaudible. I rode in an LS1 rather frequently that had a nice even sound, but it sounded distant. I've also ridden in a truck with a big sub in the back that really sounded bad in that it sounded out of synch.
So.... my question is, what makes a good sound area? I like my sound to feel like it is everywhere and I do like it rather loud (which explains why I can't hear and I'm not that old yet).
Is it the number of speakers, or is it placement, or is there some trick(s) I don't know about?
Also, anywhere I can go to research stereo design?
Thanks.

Component speakers properly placed make a great sound stage. My taurus has some clarion speakers in the doors and rear deck hooked up to a clarion amp with 1 kenwood 12" in the trunk and it has one of the best sound stages i've ever heard. My friend had some mbQuart components and they sounded awsome no rear 6x9's either just one kicker 12" sub in the hatch and it was really good. I dont think you need a lot of speakers to get the sound you want just good speakers a good amp and good speaker placement.
