BOSE Package

I have an IROC with the crappy/stock BOSE package (the speakers in the kick plates and the rear speakers in the trunk well cover). Can i replace the front speakers in the kick plates or do they not come out. As far as the rear, can i do the same. IF not, what should i go with as far as speaker setup for my car (the bose ones suck!!). Which sizes and where should they go?

The BOSE system is wired differently than a regular factory system, so there are no wires laid out to other locations and BOSE liked to use in line amps instead of one main amp also. I think the late 80's/ early 90's are the same as the newer one's. If you want to use aftermarket speakers you must make sure all BOSE amps aren't hooked up to them. The BOSE speakers run around 2ohms. Therefore the amps horriblely under power and distort aftermarket speakers. If your BOSE uses amps you will have to rewire it to usea aftermarket stuff.

OK, now, how do i do this??? The amps i am guessing are in the kick plates... how do i bypass em??? Doesn't my aftermarket receiver have an amp??? Won't that be enough to power aftermarket speakers?? Remember, i just want to use the kick plates so the car looks stock inside. Same goes for the rear speakers in the well cover.

well easy, get speakers that fit.....then run new speaker wire from the speakers to the HU. by they way, what size are the kick panel speakers?...Maybe you could tap into the wires going to the amp, you cut them from the amp thay way you don't have to reroute all the wires....but I would just to have the better speaker wire that is not on avg 15 yrs old.
