Bracketing: will this CD replace my 1992 head unit?

Can one of you guys help me? My car is in storage for the winter and I can't access this to find out!

In my 1992 firebird, I want to replace the head unit. I have a cassette with the five band equalizer to the left of the display. It does not have the steering wheel controls. I found another pontiac head unit that has CD instead of cassette. I want it because, like the one I have, the display will be red.

In order to know whether I can bolt it in, however, I need to know what the brackets for my existing head unit are like. Does anyone know? Are they removeable brackets that I can use to bolt the new CD unit in place?

thanks in advance for your input.

Dan

Yep, the metal mounting brackets are screwed on. Make sure you have the right harness, earlier GMs had different ones.

I am sorry, Justin - do you mean that the the brackets are screwed in to the console, or that they are screwed into the body of the head unit? In other words, if I want to put a Pontiac head unit from a 1995 car into my 1992 firebird, can I do it using the existing brackets, or will I need to make mods, and if so, which?

TIA

Dan

Each side has a bracket that is screwed onto the deck. Havent seen a 95 deck, but prolly is the same.

I dont think you can take the brackets off the old deck and put them on the new one. But for like 20 bucks you can get a generic mounting bracket kit from a stereo shop. Im sure they will have some sort of bracket that will do the trick.
