Bose head unit upgrade on non Bose speakers

I've searched all over and haven't come to a conclusion. My tape player in my 91 z28 died and I decided to upgrade to a Bose CD player of the same year. My car was not originally equipped with Bose, so now my speakers are playing at a very low volume. How do I fix this?

After googling like crazy this is what I think I know... I've discovered that the key to the Bose system is that each speaker has it's own amplifier. The Bose head unit expects to see 8 ohms per speaker and my factory speakers are only 4 ohms per speaker. I don't really want to splice in some big aftermarket amp, so is there a way to convert this Bose head unit to run my factory non Bose speakers. I see people on ebay selling Bose head units that they say they can convert for normal speaker use. How do they do it?

I don't know much about 1991 bose head units, but with the 1984 bose in my car only had to add standard separate amps-needed amps with a lot of input gain as the signal from the bose is very low.

You'll need an amp and a converter harness designed for your year model of Bose unit.
