Hey DJSexay!
Hey DJSexay!
Just wondering how much your awsome kickpanels are Canadian? Need to know how much money i will need. Trying to stay within a budget. Im using the Infinity Reference 605cs components. Living this side of the border really sux some times.
according to the trusty currency converter, it's $270 Canadian, shipped. I cover Canada for the same $15 shipping rate, I just need to fill out extra forms at the shipper, no biggie.
That $270 is = to the new $155 price + $15 shipping in US dollars. I think I will be doing a GP at the beginning of the new year, so it will be less then.

Alright 270 Cdn shipped. I better start saving now! I already made a deal with a buddy of mine that I'll give him my 15" HE2 subwoofer in exchange that he buys me a Infinity Reference 605cs component set.
Hey DJSexay i know you are going to have a more than awesome system in your Firehawk but i was wondering if you have a budget or anything are you spend what it takes to get the job done right. Good luck with the project. It looks great.
budget! Ha! I made up a budget when I first started this thing, but that has long been thrown out the window.
Pretty much, my stereo project is supported 100% by kickpanel sales, and now, gift money for christmas!
I am sponsored by a local retailer, so I get equipment at cost or lower, depending on brand. So that helps alot! But still, even at cost, I'll probably have over 3 grand tied up in this before all is done.
At the retail level, this thing will have over 6K worth of equipment and materials.
For your basic, really nice system, even competition worthy, can be had for 2 to 3 thousand at the retail level. Basic average systems can be done for less.
All depends on what you are looking for. With my equipment, i choose to get the best I could in each category. Tube Driver amplifiers (actually left over from an old install). JL W7 subwoofer, Audio Control processors, Alpine's top of the line head unit from a couple years ago (don't like the looks of the new stuff), and Focal Utopia front speakers, including their $1600 / pair TLR tweeters. I figured if I'm going all out, I'm gonna do it once, and do it right. But the signifigant other told me NOT to delve into credit cards for this, that all equipment must be paid for in cash. Hence, I make kickpanels
.
I truly thank everyone for their business and support. If any of you get the chance to meet me in person, you are all entitled to a listening session in the Hawk.

Wow, Candian content is alive and kicking here! Generally speaking, I've found ordering gear from the states to be the cheapest way to get high quality equipment and DJ's kicks are the perfect example of this! I picked up a pair myself to house my Orion HCCA's and I couldn't be happier!
One thing to remember though: getting anything shipped direct from the US means customs and brokerage fees (what the carrier charges you for handling the fees at the border). UPS, Fedex, or whatever carrier that is used will hit you at your front door with both charges. What this meant for me was an additional $70 Canadian (about $25-$30 for the brokerage fee alone!!) before they let me sign for it.
Now I use an address in the US so I can bring the stuff I buy across myself in order to avoid the brokerage fee that the carrier charges. you still get hit by customs, but the blow isn't nearly as hard. Of course, I live about 45 minutes from the border so it's not a big deal for me. Just thought I'd share this little piece of info 'cause I was totally shocked when it happened to me. Luckily, the kickpanels are well worth it!

TrueBlue91RS.How did you get that address in the states. Something like that sure would be handy. 2hrs of driving (1 hour there and back for me) is still cheaper then an extra 70 bucks even with a 350. Isn't there some way around having to pay duty for things like that. I mean how do that know you have em. Could i not just say "I was just down the day for my Grandma's birthday officer" How are they to know you have a new set of kickpanel already installed on your car?

Well, without telling you to do anything illegal: no, they can't tell if you've installed it. They can be suspicious, ask you questions, and ask for a receipt, but they really wouldn't be able to prove that you didn't have them when you entered the country. Whether they can act on suspicion alone is unknown to me.
As for the address, it's a friends place that I use to get stuff sent to. Chances are, this isn't an option for you. But what you can do is setup a post office box at an American post office near the border. That gives you an address in the states that where you can have mail delivered. My understanding is that they're pretty damn cheap and are rather convenient. I'm even thinking about switching to one myself. Chances are there's a post office really close to the border for just that purpose (a lot of places say that they won't ship outside of the US anyway so it's often a necessary arrangement). Yet another option is to ask for the package to be sent to the post office itself for pickup. They'll hold it for you there until you come to pick it up.
So yeah, living in Canada can make ordering US stuff a bit inconvenient/expensive, but there are lots of ways to simplify the process.
