88' Caprice Radio Issue (shows time but won't turn on)

I recently got myself an 88' Caprice wagon, and my project since then has been getting all the electrics to work. My problem was the accessories circuit not working, and after a little looking around I found that someone had put a 15 fuse in what was suppose to be 20. So I fixed the issue and now all thats all working (power locks, interior lights, etc.)

However the radio seems to be having some problems still. It displays the time, but when I attempt to turn it on, it doesn't do anything other than displaying the time. I was hoping I could just use the factory radio rather than buying an aftermarket one, so does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Could the deck itself just be fried? Or maybe damage from the incorrect fuse. Although I can't see how since was a 15 in it.

I would appreciate any advice.

I the radio is one with pushbutton on/off switch, that switch often goes bad, and also these radios are prone to broken solder joints-both are pretty easy to fix.

Thanks, sounds like those could be possibilities.

One thing that I noticed last night is if I give a radio a bit of a smack it will turn on for a split second, but then there's a spark in the cigarette lighter and it shuts off. I picked up a new cig lighter, so maybe when I put it in that will solve it. May or may not be related. We'll see I suppose.

If that doesn't look I'll take a look at what you mentioned.
