Recently bought my first ThirdGen!!!!

Im new to this website and wanted to say hi to everyone. I recently bought a 87 Camaro LT and wanted to show everyone. I picked it up from a friend for $800. It has 40,000 original miles and is all stock besides rims and hood pins. I was told it is a rare car, it has no option packages and only like 800 were made like this, from what i have heard.. It has the 2.8L and it looks and drives like new. It was the deal of a lifetime. I guess i just wanted to know if it is actually rare like I heard and if someone could tell me how many were actually made like this.

Re: Recently bought my first ThirdGen!!!!

Congratulations on your purchase BryanM254!

There probably were not too many V6 cars without many options, though I don't know if we have production records to tell us for sure. But for the money you spent, who cares? You got a fun car at a great price.

Is this your first third gen. F-body?

Yes this is my first third gen. Only thing I need to do is install a new dash pad. This pad is so cracked it is unreal. Other than that it's a very nice camaro. Turns heads when I drive by anywhere.

I wouldn't call it a rare car but it is rare to find one in that good condition in the rust belt where we live. Good find.

stephenscamaro, do you really live in Hermiston? I grew up in Tri-Cities.

Drop by the cascadecrew.org for a group of local 3rd gen owners.

Congrats! My friend bought a new '87 Type LT with a 2.8 back in '87. It is a fairly rare car.

Good used dash pads van be hard to come by. There is a repro which is nice (if not an exact duplicate), and several threads here from members who have recovered their own using all sorts of substances...fiberglass, bed liner, leather. Lots of options.

Re: Recently bought my first ThirdGen!!!!

The reproduction dash pad is $500 and yet total junk. Made by OER and the mold is terrible. Divots all over the top, poorly finished edges, and a huge gap to dash all the way around.

There is a plastic skin you can put over the original but it won't look right. But after seeing an OER pad myself, I'd say the plastic skin is as good an option as any.

I knew about the poorly finished edges, but not the other issues. Sort of has rounded off shoulders...lacks crisp lines and creases.

Re: Recently bought my first ThirdGen!!!!

Here is one example from the OER dash pad I received. There were more problems, this is just one. I returned it. At $500 it should be flawless.
