4x6 vs. 3 and tweets
4x6 vs. 3 and tweets
I am currently using two alpine 4x6's that were about $150 retail. At Best Buy, we sell some Cerwin Vega 4x6 plates that are actually 3" speakers and a seperate tweeter. I turned it up and it sounded a lot better than the pioneer 4x6's, but my alpines do too. I was wondering if there is really anything that would make these better or worse, or if n e one has even seen these actually in use. I am kinda partial to them since I have Vega 6x9's and am putting in the two Vega124's next week...thanx for your imput
oval speakers are not as acurrate as round speakers but they put out more mid and bass than a round speaker in the same hole. i would go with the 4x6 plate and make sure you have some sort of bass blocker on them and an amp if possible.

I second that.
When I added my amp, at first I had Polk 4x6s (non-plates). Soon after I added Boston plates, and the Boston's made me lose a little low-end bass response, but the highs were nicer. How much nicer a plate is depends on the speaker maker. I've had Alpine, Boston, Infinity plates and Polk regulars. Every time I listened to a plate speaker vs a regular speaker from the same company, the plate sounded nicer.
Oh yeah, use bass blockers or better yet, a crossover.
